She was preceded in death by one son, Leon Mead two brothers, Lawrence Salmans and Kenneth Salmans and two sisters, Lois Ellis and Clare Thorpe. Survivors include one daughter, Karen Lewis of Larned one brother, Robert Salmans of Larned and two sisters, Helen Vratil, and Maxine Martin, both of Larned three grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. Schmidt was a member of United Methodist Church, Order of Eastern Star, American Legion Auxiliary, and Veterans of Foreign Wars Auxiliary, all of Larned. She was a lifetime resident of Edwards and Pawnee Counties, and was a retired secretary in the purchasing office at Larned State Hospital. She later married Basil Schmidt on June 30, 1978, at Cimarron. 5, 1919, in Pawnee County, the daughter of Thomas and Erma Searcy Salmans.
